Three years ago, Eren's Titan destroyed a Marleyan scout ship and its crew were captured. Yelena and some other Marleyan conscripted deserters offered to help the Eldians, backing Zeke Jaeger’s plan to carry out the Rumbling in order to support Eldia against Marley. For the Rumbling, the Founding Titan and a Titan of royal blood are required and Zeke wanted Eren and the Paradis Eldians help execute his plan. 

Yelena and another deserter named Onyankopon provided them with schematics of Marleyan guns and advanced weaponry. Using Yelena to lure in more scout ships, the Survey Corps recruited Marleyan soldiers as labor to build a set of docks for the island. Armin believed in garnering peace with Marley with the assistance of soldiers like Yelena, but Eren firmly believed that Marley should be destroyed by force. 

Back in the present, a Marleyan chef named Nicolo, who befriended the now deceased Sasha, grieves for her death and makes peace with her mourning family. Armin reflects to the still-crystallized Annie on how whether helping Eren in the raid against Marley was the right decision. Meanwhile, an incarcerated Eren insists that fighting is the only way to survive.
